Skinning is a terminology that has been used for a while - those of you with XP desktops know you can change the look of it including the desktop background, fonts used and the shape and size of the icons and buttons.
Creative Expression and technology - Limited only by imaginationWhile this isn't quite using the word *skinning* it could be regarded as theming or customising.
DNN Skins section are the skins from the very first releases that allowed us to skin websites. This was based on the DNN 2.1.2 release back on Valentines day, in 2004 - a memorable day for many people who saw this amazing release of DNN which allowed us to separate the look and feel from the functionality.
When Nina Meiers purchased DNNSKINS.COM in 2006, the focus was to keep the site updated with skins for the DotNetNuke community.
Not many people really contribute free skins in the DNN environment, so for now, this is as good as it gets for nothing, and this year, 2009 is the year of simplification for Nina and the team at XD Design who manage the site and make sure the skins are updated.
We are changing how the store works and making it easier to download skins, and from our side, still keep it manageable.
In the pre DNN 5 releases, the original skin is packaged, but for DNN 5, we've just put in the standard converted skins. Why have duplication we say. So if you want the very original skins that were the beginning of DNN skinning, then you'll have to download the earlier versions.
